Fish Lure

Filed under: illustration — saul @ 4:45 AM

saul dec Fish Lure This is an image I created for my friend Barbara, it was used to flesh out a student calendar produced by an illustration class at The Philadelphia College of Art of which she’s the instructor. I’m pretty please with how this came out, I wanted to inject some asianesque flavor into it while maintaining my overall graphic aesthetic, and I think it works, what do you think?.

pete Pirate Day A fun piratey piece for ‘Pirate Day!’ - illustrated very quickly (under 2 hours) using a bunch of scanned bits as photoshop brushes, a very cool way to generate lots and lots of texture.

Something Fishy

Filed under: illustration — saul @ 5:46 PM

fishy Something FishyThis illustration has always been one of my favorite pieces, I think it’s a color thing, and this was one of the very first pieces that I rendered to this extent, looking back on it - maybe I should switch to decaf.

Robot

smallbot RobotThe more I fiddle with this style, the more I like it, this little spot of an odd little droid was just a blast to do. Of course, last week I did something that really was very robotesque, so this week I had to come up with a robot a little less common. Considering my client driven work is usually rendered like this, these graphic pieces are nice little breaks in my week.

Tinman spotted at work

Filed under: illustration — saul @ 11:06 AM

smalltinman Tinman spotted at workReally just me fiddling with my wacom tablet for 40 minutes or so (when I should have actually been working)… the original idea came from my sketchbook under the category - What did the ‘Wizard of Oz’ characters do after Dorothy went back to Kansas. overall I’m pleased with this, I like ‘the whole caught at work concept’, I also like how even though he now has a heart the Tinman is stuck with a job that puts him in a dark(ish) room, apparently mixing dangerous chemicals.

bug MonstersGrowing up it wasn’t ‘traditional’ monsters I was afraid of, I was the only 8 year old, running away from lightning bugs, Bugs where ‘my’ monsters — even today I’m a bit squemish of certain bugs.

Internet Secrets: M3u playlist

Filed under: geek — saul @ 9:00 PM

This isn’t so much a secret as it is just not common knowledge, here’s the scenario - you find a band website you like and they have some music you really like, but it’s a M3u file, it plays in itunes but you can’t sync it to your ipod, your iphone or god forbid, your zune, before you throw your hands up in disgust - here’s something to try -

Jump into any text editor and open the M3u (if your computer refuses to do this, change the file extension to ‘txt’) once opened you may be surprised to find a orderly list of URLs pointing to mp3s that are readily available for download, enjoy the music - and PLEASE if you enjoy an artists support them by buying their music - stealing music forces good artists to be bad waiters.
