Probably because I just found them today… when does Santa start his new list?

Holiday Booty

Filed under: cooking, daily — saul @ 2:53 PM

It can never be said that ‘T’ doesn’t pay attention - she honestly NEVER misses a gift opportunity, and this year was no exception. Among my santa leavings where -

  • Absolutely amazing no-stick cookie sheets
  • The exact griddle I wanted (how’d she know?)
  • Three different types of tongs (I didn’t even know there where three different types)
  • Big comfy socks
  • and this unbelievably soft blanket for the studio’s love sac

Overall an excellent result.

tea gift
Like Tea? Turns out I do, although I never realized exactly how much, my dear friend kim - hooked me up with a very ingenious teapot set from Adagio Teas. It came with 4 sample teas - I’m crazy for the black teas, so I’ve been mainly drinking that one, ‘T’ is a fan of the white teas (on some things we’re as different and black and white).

Is there such a thing as spicy tea? I may explore the ‘African Rooibos’ teas next.

Studio plans 2008

Filed under: daily — saul @ 11:39 PM

I’m not one for New Years resolutions - but I do like to make a clean start every year, just privately. In 2008 the only real studio goal I have is to push creativity as hard as I’ve been pushing technology for the last few years.

Hopefully the change will be apparent.

Enjoy you’re christmas

Flawed Thinking & Information Design

Filed under: daily — saul @ 6:03 PM

concerttv.jpgI recently discovered Concert.tv in my digital cables ‘On-Demand’ menu - If you enjoy live performances it’s really impressive, all their interstitials are clean, bold and graphic, and with their wealth of content it’s easy to kill an afternoon watching. I assumed that with a name like ‘concert.tv’ they’d have an equally impressive website - it’s not bad to look, but don’t look too close, it’s a flash site that IMHO fails at almost every turn.

  • I can’t bookmarks a specific artist
  • I can’t link to, or share any of the video content
  • Lastly the back button is useless

Okay so those are both kind of excusable, but in their TV ID’s they show CONCERT.TV/PERFORMANCES, and CONCERT.TV/SINGLE SONGS - (Both featured shows on the channel) and on the web? 404 - now if that isn’t a missed opportunity I don’t know what is. If your going to name your channel after your website, your website better deliver.

If they’d like some help making their site a bit more user centric - they can give me a call.

Eight things I’ve ‘aged’ to appreciate

Filed under: daily — saul @ 6:57 PM

You may know I like to make lists, here’s eight things I wasn’t fond of in my 20’s, that now in my 40’s I fully appreciate:

  • Rothko
  • salmon roe caviar
  • lavender
  • Thelonious Monk
  • Billy Holiday
  • kimchee
  • silence
  • tea (iced or otherwise)

Brunch Success

Filed under: daily — saul @ 11:08 AM

So I’ve mostly recovered from my brunch extravaganza, it was mostly a success - don’t let anyone tell you ingredients and preparation aren’t the keys to success in preparing a meal - they are, given good ingredients and decent preparation - ANYONE can cook to impress. Cleaning up while you cook, that’s where the real skill lies.

Interestingly it was the cheese stars that stole the show yet again!

Spicey Friday

Filed under: cooking, daily — saul @ 11:28 AM

I had a nice casual day with Kim, shopping for spices and eating sushi & udon in posh Chestnut Hill. Among my purchases are Black India Pepper and Lemongrass - Today I’ll pick up some fresh scallions and some tofu - and I can enjoy some fresh (and spicy) lemongrass soup, I can hardly wait.

I’m also setting up for a small brunch we’re hosting tomorrow for ‘T’ and some of her friends — tentatively the menu includes

  • toast ala francaise
  • cheese and mushroom omelets
  • petite filets
  • various breakfasty meat links
  • cheese-stars (which is a holiday treatment of my oh-so-famous broiled cheese croutons)
  • maybe some type of smoked fish (mostly for me actually)
