my ubuntu tryst
So last night on a whim I installed ubuntu, I’ve been itching to see what all the fuss was about, I had a colleague tell me that it would scream on my duo-core 2.8Mhz laptop, always one eager for speed I downloaded Wubi - a nifty one click installer that installs ubuntu without the need to partition my pc - simple enough after 25 minutes It was installed, after a restart I was up and running (it installs a boot manager, so getting back to windows is as easy as restarting)
I had heard lots of comments about how mac-like ubuntu was, and how superior it was to XP, and I’ll confirm that it tries very hard to be visually appealling, but it’s missing subtlety - something the mac GUI has in spades. I’m going to give it a few days to draw a complete opinion.
Stay tuned there will be more, while you wait, go grab Wubi and try it yourself, installation was painless, and even though it’s not mac-like I’m fairly sure it’s a big step up from XP, and if you hate it, it’s easily uninstalled.
