I’m not pro-diet, I think diets suck, and in general any weight you DO lose, you gain back two-fold, the reason is simple, the concept of a diet is to eat less and burn more until you reach a certain goal, that first part is good - the second part is the problem. A diet is a temporary state - 99.9% of the time when a dieter reaches their goal weight they stop dieting, they return to their original eating patterns, and Bam! they’ve gained all the weight back, plus a little more poundage just to add insult. In order to loose weight and keep it off, you need to modify your eating patterns permanently - hopefully learn a bit more about what you’re eating, and find solutions that work for you, it’s a difficult process, and a professional nutritionist can certainly help, but here are a few helpful diet hacks I can recommend:

Poison, I never considered poison, now with the mouthful of cheap tequila warming my gut, the idea of poison seemed obvious, was it the whole bottle, or just the glass, would it be a fast demise, or a slow painful descent into hell, feeling tremendously exposed and vulnerable I poured myself another shot, and tossed it back… ‘freekin poison, how could I be so careless’.
Late at night I make lists, this one is in progress… Some undeniable truths of dealing with clients as a creative, and some real-world traslations to some VERY common statements.
- The kind of work you show - is the kind of work you get.
- Regardless of how organized and proactive you are, clients will screw with your scheduling, your workflow and ultimately your sanity.
- It’s not proofread.
- Every client is not only a writer, but a photographer as well.
Client Speak Equations
- We have plenty of time = 1 day
- I need this rush = It’s already late
- I’ll send that check out today = unknown
- I’ll email it to you = 17MB+
I’m going to get on my soapbox for this post, If you’ve been following the news Atlanta Falcons star (and franchise player) Michael Vick was recently indicted for his involvement with dog-fighting. What does Mr. Vick get for his heinous crime, well… the charges are pending, but the Falcon’s are going to suspend him for 4 games (oooh, that hurts) but courtesy of a binding agreement with the players union he’ll get paid for those 4 games, so it’s almost a paid vacation -
Maybe Mr. Vick can entertain himself by participating is some human trafficing, or he can spend 3 of those 4 weeks mule-ing heroin over the border from Mexico, surely the penalties for those offenses would include a spa vacation or an ice cream cone at the very least.
Now I know that some muscle-headed sports guy is going to point out that Mr. Vick’s massive salary ($130M) is highly dependent on performance milestones - and that this 4 game suspension will actually cost him millions in lost incentives. I forget how many mangled and tortured dogs in a million?
Clearly the NFL have a vested interest in Mr. Vick’s freedom, as well as the TV revenue he generates, but their overall lack of outrage makes me mad, if Mr. Vick had a habitual drug problem, he’d stand to get banned from the sport entirely, but slaughter a truckload of trusting, innocent canines, he barely gets a slap on the wrist.
I can hardly wait for the PeTA commercials on Superbowl sunday this year.

Sometime it’s the simple things, I needed to markup a pile of layouts for a team of developers - and my handwriting is highly questionable - simple enough, 5 minutes later and I had a simple Adobe Illustrator symbol library with all the needed HTML tags - a few minutes of drag and drop and there was no doubt what the markup should be, and it has pretty colors too. Anyhow maybe it will be helpful to someone out there.
The library includes

I’ve been working to minimize my life, It’s a highly educational process. You really get to know yourself as a person, when you’re deciding what stays and what goes.
I have a experiment I’d like you to try, go to Home Depot get yourself a reasonably large plastic bin, and some biggish plastic bags. Got them? great, now here’s what we’re going to do - we’re going to go through every drawer, cabinet and closet and gather like items, we’re going to label a bag and we’re going to put those like items in a bags, and then the bags in the bin, now we have two goals, reduce redundancy, and eliminate that which isn’t needed. You basically are going to ask yourself 3 4 questions;

Spent some time last night watching the Ruby on Rails screencasts, amazing stuff…I don’t see a point when I would be doing this kind of work for clients, but then again I never thought 80% of my work would involve CSS either. In the short term I might just make a few small apps for the studio, If you do any type of development, you should take a look.
Much like children and pets, items of modern technology needs a name, in order for our expensive toys to talk to each other we have to give them some type of moniker, I’ve always been amused at what people name their gear — the ones I’ve seen fell into several camps;
- sci-fi references like crusher, piccard, and ewok.
- geek labels like blackBox, infiniteLoop and byteSize.
- tv references like buffy, josie and scrappy-do.
- physical descriptions like silver_tower, sony_laptop and big_fast_dell.
IMHO naming a single computer is easy, it get’s MUCH harder when you’re trying to name a whole networks worth of computers, even a small network offers the challenge of continuity - I’ve worked on the networks named DeathStar and High-Speed Kermit, and of course each computer on those networks had to named accordingly Star Wars names (which I hated) or muppet names, after a few days the luster really wears off that.

I was just cleaning up a few bookmark bar folders, and I thought these might prove useful for someone - I’ll assume you know what a bookmarklet is. Also I did not write any of these bookmarklets (I simple gathered them), I use them, find them endlessly useful and am storing them here purely as a convenience - I offer no warranty as to how helpful YOU may find these items.
