Not-So Random Cover

Filed under: audio — saul @ 8:53 PM

My dear friend Dawn pointed me to this excellent Chris Cornell cover of a classic MJ song, it’s certainly worthy of a few listens, I don’t recall him sounding this good in Soundgarden.

Most Significant Song Number 9

Filed under: audio — saul @ 2:03 PM

Yet another song that have been significant in my life.

Not much I can say about this song other than it reminds me of my wife. I like the Dire Straits version best, but Matt Nathanson does a great job performing this live.

In Honor Of The Cave

Years ago, I worked with cool guys (Brad, Camille & Dave) in an equally cool office (aka - THE CAVE black ceilings, dark forest green walls, glass and chrome furniture) - not that you’d ever see any of it because the lights where generally off, and like quality mushrooms we lived in the dark. The web was a new place, websites where nothing more than pretty clickable things you looked at in IE or Netscape - and client expectation was generally low.

It just started getting cold here, for some reason I always get nostalgic when it gets cold.

Camille this one is for you.

I don’t make this stuff up

Filed under: audio — saul @ 8:47 AM

This mellow audio mash-up features:

  • Zamfir (YES the Master of the Pan flute himself)
  • Dirty Vegas
  • The Bee Gee’s

Interestingly this track loops almost seemlessly - I had it on repeat and didn’t even notice it until I’d been listening for 20 minutes - thinking to myself, “man this is a long Zamfir track”.

‡ In the future ALL mash-ups will feature Zamfir or his son Zomfir the undisputed master of the slide flute.

Just a Great Cover

Ever notice that you just don’t hear ENOUGH covers of Britney Spears OR Iggy Pop, I can fix that even if just for today, Covers by Richard Thompson and Joey Ramone respectively.

We miss you Joey!, Britney not so much, because I’m a bastard, you have to listen to the Britney track to get to the Iggy track.

(If you want to avoid the britney track, hit mute for 3:22

Most Significant Song Number 10

I have a dear friend who has the most amazing ear for music, she can name, artist and title of practically any song recording in the last 30 years after just hearing the first few seconds - she’s scary accurate. She knows a LOT about music, who was in what band, who wrote what etc.. You can lose hours on the topic with her, and I often do.

For a non-musician I spend a lot of time talking and thinking about music. Yesterday I went to a few meetings and I still had my ipod clipped to my shirt, and inevitably I was asked me what kind of music I liked, what I was listening too, both very typical questions (since wearing an ipod in public is ‘code’ for ‘walk right up to me and ask me about the kind music I listen too’)

Billy Who?

Filed under: audio — saul @ 8:21 AM

There are a very few Billy Joel songs I like, although I respect him as a songwriter, all that being said here’s Weezer covering ‘Uptown Girl’.

Charming strong voice, nice acoustic guitar - honestly I don’t love the song, but the voice easily makes up for it. Check out her website, you can buy her album on cdbaby.
